Harris|Schoolcraft seems to have drawn a wrong conclusion early on confusing Hiawatha and Manbozho as the same, and then continuing in that. Most of the tales are still told in a reasonable way, but his attitude toward the Indians is too superior to really allow him any insight. There are certainly better sources available.

Henry Rowe Schoolcraft was an American geographer, geologist, and ethnologist, noted for his early studies of Native American cultures, as well as for his 1832 expedition to the source of the Mississippi River.
